Strymon across a desk

Postby matt222 » Mon Sep 11, 2017 6:35 pm

I have a collection of hardware synths into a Mackie SR24.4 VLZ desk in my amateur hobby room, and I'm hugely impressed by the beautiful reverbs of the Strymon Bigsky pedal.

Can I use this pedal across my desk's aux inputs, set up like a conventional rackmount effects unit and still achieve the same sound quality it is capable of?

Yes you can.

I have my Big Sky hanging off an aux of my Allen & Heath mixer for exactly this purpose and it works wonderfully. Just be carefull not to overload the input of the Strymon. It does seem however, that it can take a hotter signal before distorting than, say, a Boss pedal. I haven't looked at the input specs of the Big Sky but I presume they're available on the website.

HTH

EDIT: I should also say that I'm using an unbalanced TS cable to connect the desk to the input of the pedal and 2 unbalanced TS cables from its outpouts back to the desk.

Great, thank you.

I was hesitant to buy one in case straight after I do, the release a purpose made version for studio/desk use.

Well they weren't going to, but now that there's been discussion on a prominent music forum they might decide there's a market... ;)
