Cheapest possible way to record digital (optical) mixer to laptop
Yes title says all. What is the cheapest possible way to get recorded sound into my laptop (perferably optically). This laptop has no inputs whatsoever. That being said it is still my favorite laptop ive ever owned and the sound its really great. i will probably have to buy some sort of external soundcard with optical in am i right?

Yes - that's right. I'm a bit out of touch with which budget interfaces have optical inputs although Audient have a range of interfaces with optical inputs that aren't too expensive. Which mixer are you using? Does it send SPDIF or ADAT format optical signals?

its a tascam digital mixer. im actually going to be using it as a way to record the frequency of my headphones with mathaudio auto eq so i can use the ideal frequency response.

Ive solved my problem. I just needed to upgrade to headphone eq. that way i dont need digital in. in headphone eq you just adjust it manually and it honestly works better than the older auto eq version and sounds like a high resolution headphone now. ive eq'd it.
