OLED Displays on Studer On Air 1500

Postby Brian M Rose » Sat Jul 21, 2018 1:23 pm

Just a punt....
Some of the Oled displays on both of our Studer On Air 1500s are rapidly failing. Our supplier is still waiting for Studer to reply when these will be available.
Does anyone know if the displays are a generic part that can be replaced? It does seem rather strange that there is such a delay - this is after all broadcast equipment from a very reputable manufacturer.
Cheers

Studer is just another brand name for Harman who are owned by Samsung nowadays. I think that all the Studer mixer support is now handled by the people at the old Soundcraft offices in Hertfordshire.

We've had the same issue with our On Air 1500. Did you ever get any resolution? Lifespan is really disappointing for an otherwise great product.

There's a Facebook group devoted to replacement displays for music gear. It might be worth posting a photo over there (and possibly here too) as I doubt many people will know what the displays actually look like.

I had the same problem with my Studer On Air 1500 and got a quote to replace them.

It was about 1,400 EUR to replace the OLED's of the main mixing desk as well as the extension. On top they tried to sell me an expensive update claiming the new OLEDs would not work with the old software

Rather expensive for a clear Studer faulty design and/or manufacturing error , I believe.

Did you guys ever found a better/cheaper solution?

Well, AFAIK the displays are still working, but the Studio is in total lock down. I seem to remember that Studer had to find replacements as the original ones were no longer made.
As yes, Studer is hardly pro/am, so all rather dissapointing. In all other aspects the desks perform perfectly.
As for spare parts. I remember having to replace the LCD blocks on tow Sony HD cameras back in the early 2000's (they have been hit by lasers) £20,000 a time!
