Whats' the antenna for?
The manual says the Antenna " Connects to inducted external antenna for Bluetooth LE."
Is that for remote(App) control?

From the FAQ:

What does the antenna connection do?

In the near-future the antenna will be used to connect the Scorpio via Bluetooth to SD-Remote, the companion application for Android and iOS.

With a projected (US) price around $9K it would need to be! And the TA5 connectors are a flippin' pain to solder and don't really accommodate any proper two channel cable I can think of. Mini starquad as a compromise maybe.

There again, it's a fair bit cheaper than a Cantar X3 and records more tracks. Though the Cantar is still an amazing bit of kit and beautiful to use.

have been using 664/633 for years, also got mixpre-3 for the small portable interviews and nothing could possibly beat SD! Those preamps and analog limiter is something that's makes me very horny

Well, the power adaptor does not look like it was made without compromise to be the best quality for the UK market and you have to use it...

"Connect the SX-R4+ Recorder only to the optional external power supply delivered by SONOSAX"

Image

I would prefer the Dell type with country specific plug to clover on the brick or the Sound Devices ones with IEC.

I would prefer the Dell type with country specific plug to clover on the brick or the Sound Devices ones with IEC.

It's a battery powered device with the power adaptor used to charge the battery.

It does have country-specific interchangeable plug-heads that lock in place on the "brick" (as you can clearly see in the picture) and the connector to the device is a lockable Hirose connector that won't easily pull out.

A properly engineered solution as I see it.

I WANT! So many great things about Scorpio

But outside my price range.

So I'll wait for a mythical "Scorpio Micro" which has all the goodness of Scorpio but with lower track count and lower price?
