?? XP was not "mac" (whatever happened to Boot Camp?) but perhaps I should have said " Msoft v Apple"?

I do recall when USB 2.0 came out I did a format and re-install of XP and all went (surprisingly!) well until I tried to use a USB 2.0 stick. Then I got "no drivers installed for this device" But the Ms site said no drivers were needed for 2.0 devices. Cannot recall how I got out of that Catch 22 situation but must have done!

Waaay before that was the dreaded "missing dll.exe file" SNAFU...But you try to find one!

I think the bottom line is that USB is a damn site more reliable now than it used to be :thumbup:
