Alternatives to Altiverb and Abbey Road for real chamber sound?

Postby Dr Huge Longjohns » Thu Sep 12, 2019 5:29 pm

I have Abbey Road Chambers and it's incredibly realistic but it uses soooooo much CPU. Are there any other super-realistic chamber reverbs you'd recommend that are slightly less CPU hungry and not as expensive as Altiverb? Apple/Logic user. Cheers

After asking advice here, I ended up buying East West Spaces II - 200 quid on a 'special offer' - but it does sound great and seems way better than Abbey Road which like you, I find very CPU hungry in Logic.

I have Abbey Rd Chamber but then again I have tons of verb plugins and quite a few of them have chamber algos and IRs. I tend to use Eventide's Ultrareverb and Softube's Tsar-1 for chambers, and on occasion Steinberg's Revelation for scratch padding verb ideas down on the fly.

But there are loads out there. Some are very good some not so much. With verbs I tend to download trials and use them in anger to determine which is good before I commit. It can be really hit and miss in the verb department.

I love those old Lexicon reverbs, and still use them, but they are very old now, and don't appear to be being actively supported. I would be very wary of investing money in something that might fail on the next OS update, never to be fixed.
