iphone to mixer

Postby jamedia.uk » Sat Oct 19, 2019 9:55 pm

There are times when you want to record a conversation from a phone. eg interviews and podcasts. Whilst Rode and Zoom do small mixers with a dedicated iPhone input to do this how would you do it with a normal mixer with XLR inputs and jack headphone monitor outputs?

I have a Zoom L12. I can probably construct a cable myself but I assume that some one makes one already?

Anyone come across such a cable/converter system?

I have googled but nothing is coming up.

Thanks

I suspect the issue might be with recording both sides of the conversation?

But that should do the job no?
Room mic into one channel, phone mic output into another, desk out to recorder?
Unless i'm misunderstanding the problem?
Which is altogether possible.

You say iPhone to mixer - but do you actually mean mixer to iPhone?

For iPhone to mixer use a DragonFly - this is a high quality DAC and great for headphones and, with a mini-jack to XLR, is perfect for getting sound from the iPhone to the mixer. The DragonFly Cobalt is best, the Red is excellent and second best and the black is very good and the cheapest of the three.

It's a USB device and you use it with the Apple Lightning to camera adaptor - excellent - I have had my Red for a few years now and upgraded to the new Cobalt this year.

No good for going the other way, though.
