Battery options for Zoom H6

Postby paulfromcamden » Mon Dec 02, 2019 2:20 pm

I'm using Eneloop Pro 2500mAh batteries with my Zoom H6 (in the hope that they're more environmentally friendly than disposable batteries) but they're proving to be fairly unpredictable in terms of battery life.

I've had them run for over an hour with phantom switched on all four inputs. Yesterday they conked out after 25 minutes - right in the middle of a concert recording... :(

I have a third party USB power adaptor but it's not always straightforward to find a power socket.

A fresh set of Duracells seems to run for yonks. Are there any other good options?

Since it can run on power via the USB port, I'd get one of those 'powerbank' portable phone charger battery packs -- the largest you can find -- and use that (in conjunction with AA batteries in the machine as an emergency fall-back option).

A powerbank isn't too bulky, so the machine is still portable, and you're not tied to a mains socket, but you'll have something in the region of 30AHours of capacity which should last a concert or two...

I've just bought one of these (from China so it won't be arriving until Dec 30th but that's another story :headbang: )

https://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B07H4FQFQW/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o00_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1

The plan is to use it to run the XR12 so I can have a small, 'off grid' PA system with a couple of Bose S1 Pros.

Quite a bit bulkier but more versatile than Hugh's link as ir contains a mains inverter (the XR12 has an internal PSU). I do have a number of similar battery packs though and they all seem to work well.

I’ve used a number of different rechargeables in my H6 and never had a problem , but a powerbank with AAs loaded in for backup is a great idea for mission critical recordings.

Im using a pretty hefty powerbank with my zoom H4n. Works great, phantom power for hours!
So yes, get a power bank!

s I mentioned in another thread, it arrived in 4 days! And should run the XR12 for a few hours (7+ according to the display).

Interesting they call it a solar generator, but don’t include panels!

Yes, bizarre :D Indeed, and never mind the ref to solar, just calling it a generator is misleading.......
