Best closed back headphones under 200?

Postby garient » Tue Dec 10, 2019 11:00 pm

Hi
Im about to buy a pair of closed back headphones but am not sure which ones to choose.
I create singer/songwriter music , acoustic with a bit of electronic over the top with occasional strings.

The DT770s and AT ATH M50s seem to come up a bit in reviews, but I was wondering what others opinions are?

Thanks
Gaz

I'm a big fan of DT770s, mostly because i find them really comfortable.

Why closed back? Are these for tracking or mixing? The normal rule of thumb is closed back for tracking and open for mixing. Closed back phones normally sound more boxy than open backed phones because of the physics of the enclosures.

Im buying a set of open and closed. Mainly because i will be editing etc on rains and in public places as well as at home. Im looking at the Dt990s for open back

D770 user here for tracking but actually I have also used the semi-open D880 for both tracking and mixing - and they sound better than both the D770 and D990.......
