Audeze LCD-1 and earcup connection

Postby baward » Sun Dec 29, 2019 6:41 pm

Can someone please explain how it is that the LCD-1's earcups don't mind how they're connected, or as Sam Inglis has it "[the main cable] always delivers the right channel to the right earcup regardless of which way round you connect it."

Seems like voodoo to me, but then I am quite elderly

It's not rocket science! The ear-cup plugs are (stereo) 3.5mm TRS plugs, the same as the source (input) connector plug at the other end of the cable. And all three plugs are simply wired in parallel.

So the left ear-cup picks up the tip and sleeve connections, and the right ear-cup picks up the ring and sleeve connections. Doesn't matter which Y-split plug goes into which ear-cup. Simples...

That’s what I guessed, should have backed my instinct and posted. For a few moments people might have believed I was Dr Hugh...
