If you want an amplifier to create sine wave test tones, then the solid-state amp is supreme. But if you want to listen to Rachmaninoff, Sibelius, or Elvis, for me the classic old tube amp will communicate more dynamics and more music.
That makes little sense? From the (admittedly very little yet) that I get about this stuff, if anything a well designed solid state without transformer will have better transient response (faster and better slew rate ) than transformer-equipped tube amps? So more dynamics, not less?
I get that transformers can change the sound in a nice way, but that doesn't give you more dynamics, gives you a different sound..
