I’ve had a few drum programs. Currently have EZ Drummer, Addictive Drums, XO, Stylus, I think BFD which I never use anymore. I loved the Cubase one, when it worked with Logic. Surprisingly I end up using Logic’s built in drummer a lot, but it sounds like you are on a PC?
Happy to run your midi through what I have.

If you have the money and want professional-sounding results, EZ Drummer and Slate Drums are the two contenders in my opinion.

If you like an up-front, produced sound go SSD5. If you want something more natural, with some great-sounding expansions packs and better MIDI files, EZD works better. The Slate is a cracking bargain at the moment, but you may find EZD more to your taste. A few demos should let you make a confident decision.

Lots of (in fact most) other products can be made to sound OK to good, but often take more work and have fewer features.

P.S. What is your budget? Do you need any MIDI files? Any special requirements or preferences?

Superior Drummer is definitely out of budget I'm afraid.
I've got about £100. So SSD is only in scope due to the current sale.

I'm going to download some demos today and run the same midi file through them.

And now I will be able to add the SD file as well - thanks Fruitcake! :)

MDrummer will also be out of your budget then as well! Do you still want a recording of your Midi from me?

If you have time Garretendi that might be a useful comparison to the mix. And Melda do have frequent sales after all... ;)

I have tried many of the drum VIs, and for me Strike by Air is the best. It works differently than the others in that it offers a drum performance each time you play it.

It comes with a huge set of kits and patterns and performances from different styles.

You basically can 'play' it by letting it know if you are in an intro, a verse, a chorus, a bridge, etc. While it plays you can adjust the feel, intensity, complexity, groove, etc, so that you can add a breathable dynamic to the performance.

It has very well recorded drums, and you can use any kit for any style.

It will print the audio to separate tracks like a real drum recording session.

It feels like tracking a real drummer.

I much prefer a real drummer of course, but Strike is very musical. If you use it's stock performances it is very simple to make a song with it and it will make music that most people will assume is a real human drummer. Just use the key switches to tell it the arrangement as you play. You don't have to print the audio so you can keep it simple and just use it as a 'drum machine' on one track.

It does take a while to wrap your brain around the performance aspect of it and how it is different every time it plays, and how to control the performance with the musical knobs that it gives you.

I even do comps!

I forgot about Strike! It's an old product, but I've used it for quick song demos in the past and had excellent results given the small amount of time and effort put in. It may be just the ticket. The entire AIR collection can be had for under $100 at Plugin Boutique, which is a bargain I think. Some good stuff in that pack...
