reaper, DIGI 001, Behringer ADA8200

Postby JSkalon » Wed Jul 08, 2020 5:31 am

HI Guys,
I am running reaper, DIGI 001, Behringer ADA8200 on Win XP. the ADA8200 is the Master clock. I am able to set up head phone mixes to a headphone amp using outputs via the DIGI 001 without a hitch. No luck with the rear xlr outputs on the ADA8200.
I insert a new track, add new HW device, uncheck Master Send, add all my new receives,
plug in my y cable (2 xlr to stereo 1/4" between ADA8200 outputs and the stereo input on my headphone amp. NO sound, nothing. When I use the same set just coming out of the DIGI 001, no problem.. Any ideas?
Thanks for the help.

How is the ADA8200 connected to the Digital 001?

The lightpipe cable connects from the ADA8200 OUT to the DIGI 001 IN.
I define the inputs and outputs in DEVICE OPTIONS in REAPER.

Have you checked the first and last channel settings in Reaper's audio hardware setup? Sometimes it is set to only the first two channels by default.

Yep. I have done that and verified that. When I create headphone mixes using the DIGI OUTPUTS I don't have a problem. Just when I try to create them using the ADA8200.
Ufortunately I will be out until tonight, but this is 1st on my list.
Thanks for your help.

if you're expecting to get outputs from the ADA8200, you'll need a second lightpipe from the Digi001 ADAT outputs to the ADA8200 ADAT inputs.

The ADAT lightpipe carries eight audio channels in a single direction.

Just realized I don't have another cable which is bad anyway. Just ordered one. Will try it when it gets here.
Up to this point I just tracked drums for projects. Decided to expand my horizons and have been learning from the guys I track for.
The upside (if there has to be one) to being stuck inside. LEARN, LEARN, LEARN.
Hope you're all staying safe out there.
Thank you for your help.

You could easily test the outputs of the ADA8200 by swapping the optical cable from the 001 in/ada out and the reverse. You can do both with one optical cable, just not at the same time.

True... But his setup is currently configured to use the ada8200 as the clock master, so if the lightpipe carrying the ada8200s output into the digi001 was removed the clock signal would be too... So an alternate clocking arrangement would be required.

Good point Hugh but couldn't he make the 001 the master clock for the purpose of testing the outputs?

Yes, of course. I was just thinking that if not connecting a second lightpipe wasn't obvious, changing the clocking wouldn't be either.

That did it Hugh. Thank you and everyone that chimed in,. I just hope I can be of help to someone down the road. Up to this point I mainly track drums for people. This COVID situation prompted me to spend the time to expand my horizons and learn more of the recording process. Thanks again. you guys are awesome!
Please Stay safe and healthy!
