USB midi instead of an interface.

Postby Matt D » Mon Sep 21, 2020 10:48 pm

Having now gotten over the problem of connecting my Qu16 to Login Pro X, I am moving on to Midi.

Does anyone on the forum have experience of connecting say, 6 synths, all with USB class compliant sockets on the rear?

My idea is that Im going to need some sort of USB interface to connect all of the synths to the interface and subsequently, connect the interface to the laptop. Im looking at this method to avoid purchasing a midi interface.

If it is that simple, have you used an 8 port USB interface and can you recommend one?

Or is it a case of purchasing an 8x8 midi interface.

I can't speak for Mac, as I'm Windows, but I use both a clutch of 10/12-port powered USB hubs *and* a a pair of 8x8 MIDI interfaces.

Be aware that every USB port has a 'resource limit' - which I've hit a few times, so you may need to balance up how you connect your USB gear.

For some months now I've been using a couple of these for connecting my synths via USB without any problems at all:

They are available in both 7 and 10 port versions from that page.

Thank you very much for both of your answers, im going to order the USB Hub from Amazon now and will give it a go.

And then I can find something else to be totally confused about

I've found the Orico hubs completely reliable.

The only problem I've found is that a few of these will do strange things if the connected device is sending streams of active sensing before the unit has initialised.
