I did the sound for a dance band a few months (years?) ago and the singer/caller was using a 421 in preference to the OM-7 I'd suggested to help with the boomy stage. It was much better than I expected, cut and separation were good and bass was tight and full with little stage resonance.
I've been playing with my nice, shiny 421 on some BVs. There's a certain quality to harmonies which I find much more capture-able on my ribbon (m270n) than any of my cheap and cheerful condensers and dynamics.
