Yes Mike, I remember a version with a clip that surrounded the mic that had a little tab that fitted into a slot underneath it near the XLR (and it was definitely XLR) it might have been a 422 though.

Dan

Edit: yes it was an MD422 I was thinking of

Well, my order has been dispatched from GAK. So they are definitely out there at the offer price.

Interestingly, GAK will not ship to the US and does not even include the US in the list of countries for shipping. Thomann says Sennheiser won't let them ship Sennheiser products to the US but this is not the reason GAK won't ship to the US.

@Mike

Yes, but there are several other versions. I, for instance own a pair of MD 421 N’s with the small Tuchel connector. They came with both types of clips.

Why not purchase from a US dealer? Many have it listed for sale at $199

Ooops

It appears now they are sold out

Scored 2 off a dealer on Reverb last night for $199.99 each with free 2 day shipping and a free mic cable. Looks like they've dropped the free shipping since.

Received mine this afternoon and very pleased. Held the response plots up to the light and they are very close. But the included manual is light on detail and doesn't explain which setting is which for the bass cut and no detail on removing the clip. But there are pdf's on the Sennheiser web support pages with a bit more detail.

Mine is still, apparently, making its way from Thomann to a UPS depot in Germany

M is for "more bass" and S is for "shriek".

They don't mention the clip in a kind of Fawlty Towers way.

M - Music
S - Speech

That's the way it was explained to me once.

Music & Speech makes perfect sense.

And I've discovered how the clip works. Which is important because you need to remove it to read the serial number and match the mic to the response plot.

Like most things in life. It's remarkably straightforward once you know how it works.

Most people discover that when the mic is suspended vertically above a tom-tom and they accidentally press the button while repositioning the mic!

The 'industry standard' fix is to run a small tie-wrap around the release button, through the gap in the stand mount body, effectively preventing the button from being pressed in at all (until the tiewrap is removed). The mic can be stored in its case with the clip still attached... so that's the way we always used them!

If the current design has a stiffer button, so much the better... but I suspect it will loosen with use and age.
