I did the sound for a dance band a few months (years?) ago and the singer/caller was using a 421 in preference to the OM-7 I'd suggested to help with the boomy stage. It was much better than I expected, cut and separation were good and bass was tight and full with little stage resonance.

I've been playing with my nice, shiny 421 on some BVs. There's a certain quality to harmonies which I find much more capture-able on my ribbon (m270n) than any of my cheap and cheerful condensers and dynamics.

Have they gone back up to the normal price yet? I haven't dared to look at any music store websites since reading this thread...

As I remember it they never used to last long enough to decay in any way.

Oops, er, yeah... knees and suchlike. That's what I meant as well.

Surprised at the size of the box the mic comes in, really quite hefty. Managed to figure out the clip - it feels like a sort of 3d Mensa test.
