Scarlett 18i8: Having trouble with rear line inputs

Postby sld128 » Fri Oct 09, 2020 10:16 pm

Hello all,
I just purchased my second interface ever, and while it's sad to see the old Scarlett 2i2 on the shelf, it's exciting to finally have more inputs. I purchased the Scarlett 18i8 (NOT 18i20) 2nd Gen, and it's worked great, except for one thing. When I plug my Arturia Microfreak into the front inputs, it works no problem, but I try the rear inputs and it decides not to work anymore. Am I doing something wrong? Did I buy a broken product? I should add that I bought this used off of ebay. If it isn't broken, how do I fix it? Is there something in Focusrite Control that can fix it? Any help is much appreciated.

Thanks guys!

If it's your first time with multi-channel interfaces you might be tripped by the fact they usually require explicit routing - telling which inputs are active, what goes where, the levels etc. Usually you have a control program that comes with the interface as part of the driver package.

Could it be that the rear line inputs are either inactive or muted, or routed somewhere else than the main speakers out?

My 18i8 has been donated to the grunty youth upstairs but can be retrieved if we hit a brick wall.

There are presets that can be loaded into Mix Control, go: file/open/ and explore the options.

If none of them sort the problem we can play with the possibilities.

Where are you routing the rear inputs to? To your software inputs on your computer, or do you want them being direct monitored in the interface, so mixed into the interface's outputs directly?

Can you screen grab your current Focusrite Control Panel main routing screen?

The problem has been discovered: my cord wasn't plugged in all the way

Thanks for your responsiveness and helpful attitudes tho. It shows me that I can come here if there's a legitimate problem next time.

Ha :)

I suppose it confirms, yet again, that we should take a methodical approach from the obvious to the far-fetched.

Well spotted.
