Well I don't run the latest Reaper, I'm still on 2.58 and its not in there, so perhaps its a recent feature.

Did you try the Shift+Up/Down arrow? Don't know if it's available on 2.58...

Nope, I don't want to see big waveforms was just trying to help the OP. I don't even have the waveforms displayed to save a bit of screen processing. Being a tape baby its a bit unnecessary for the way I work.

Sounds like the best way to concentrate on sound vs. image. I lean more and more towards that when tracking, just not being able to see the waveforms makes me feel more like I´m making music. :D

Yes, everything but editing, actually. I once got to the point of turning the screen off during playback to prove a client´s friend that some background vocals I was mixing were on time. He said they were not because "the waveforms were not aligned".

The only way I solved this problem was to finally take Hughs advice, and reduce my recording levels drastically, -20/25dB.
But I still get caught out sometimes, and I still feel the need to use a limiter, we have the worst ever, Marimba, which is incredibly dynamic, and a big keyboard amp interacting with everything else, all playing mad free-improv that’s totally unpredictable, TBH, low levels, plus a limiter are essential in these circumstances, just for belt and braces, and we still get takes that are still ruined by peaks.
