Your favorite Mix?! (Live Orchestra Tracks)

Postby FredericBernard » Wed Sep 13, 2017 1:25 am

Hi,

let me introduce my self: I'm Frederic Bernard a 28 years old composer from Germany.

I had a few live orchestra sessions to record my own compositions. The four music pieces got mixed by different professional mixers. I'd love to know which mix/master you like the most out of them:

John Rodd

Greg Townley

Phil McGowan

...what do you think? (I wont tell you my favorite mix, in order to not affect your guys opinion  )

My first thought was that I prefered the mix of the John Rodd one, but on a further listen I think that might just be a loudness thing.
I wasn't so keen on the Phil McGowan mix though, it just doesn't seem to have the clarity and separation of the other tracks.

Thanks for your feedback. Actually I think they all got their pros and cons, while Townley's "Mr. Alice" mix stands out IMO. Love the "bigger than life" attitude of this one the most. I found that Kitchen Fiasco is just incredibly loud mixed. I think that's a big pro for selling this specific track for potential licensation. As far as the McGowan mix goes - some professionals I've spoken to said it's equal or even superior to the other ones. Anyway, more feedback or opinions are appreciated.

best,
Frederic

Townley - spaghhetti, to my ear. The Rodd one sounds totally wrong to me, almost like it's been parallel compressed or something, but each to their own i guess.

Agree about the Rodd mix. Sounds all wrong to me. Liked the others.
