Mastering for streaming services

Postby brianlee408 » Sat Jun 23, 2018 9:05 pm

Hi all,

Maybe this has been covered on this forum, but no matter how much I look through the internet I can't figure out how to master my music for Spotify and Apple Music.

I'm not saying my music has to be the loudest--my music is just so much quieter than every other song on Spotify. Here's an example:

I use ableton, and I got my music to -14 LUFS, but it's still quiet on Spotify. I'm beginning to think that I can't make my music loud enough on Spotify on my own. Is there something blatant that I'm missing? I'm assuming I just need the help of an actual mastering engineer.

Is there any trusted service that I can send my music to so that it can be mastered to be loud enough?

Once everything kicked in it didn't sound particularly quiet to me - but that track did take a long time to actually get going. There could be some psychology at work here too - artists often think that their own songs sound quieter on the radio than everyone elses.
