Where is Omnisphere 2.5?

Postby Jez Corbett » Fri Sep 14, 2018 9:34 am

Recently left a job where I had become rather dependent on Omnisphere, so want to buy my own copy.

However, it turns out Omnisphere 2.5 came out last month and as a result all the big german retailers appear to have removed 2.0 from their stock, but haven't replaced it with 2.5 yet. Some sites where I currently am in Finland are listing 2.5, but are out of stock. They don't know when its coming in.

I could buy it off Spectrasonic's site, but they'll charge me almost €100 more than the box retailers here are listing it at.

Alternatively, some sites ARE still listing stock of 2.0, but apparently the upgrade from 2.0 to 2.5 is €179.

Argh.

The 2.5 upgrade is free. So buy Omnisphere 2 wherever you can, install/register, and update from the website.

Pricing and Availability
Omnisphere 2.5 is available now as a FREE update for all registered Omnisphere 2 users!

Can you link me to that? I'm a bit lost as retailers I've seen are showing "v1 and v2 upgrade to v2.5 for €179" prices.

Although I don't actually see anyone selling Omnisphere 2.0 anywhere, at least in stock, either.

There's an upgrade price from Omnisphere v1.x to v2.x
https://www.spectrasonics.net/sales/techshop/?main_page=product_info&products_id=28

but if you own v2.x, all 2.x updates have been free.

Can't comment on the continental stockists but UK retailers have 2.0 in stock. Time+Space, Gear4Music and PMT all show it in stock.

I don't have Omnisphere yet, and as I have one of the hardware synths it can link up with I expect I will go for it at some point soon. I wonder how long it will take for version 2.5 boxed versions to be available, to save the faff of having to update immediately.

I also don't understand why the direct download is almost £50 more expensive. When I asked this on another forum I was told it's because Eric Persing started off working in a music shop and wants to keep them alive! Quite noble if true, but is that the sole reason for the higher priced download?

It's quite common for direct sales to be more expensive than at retail - they'll generally sell at full RRP as they don't want to piss off the retail supply chain - distributors and retailers could potentially refuse to stock their product. This is the case across retail in general.

Wayyy back in the day when I worked (breifly) in retail we had a big issue with the release of a major bit of audio software - our shop flat refused to stock it as the manufacturer was selling direct for a price we couldn't comfortably sell ourselves. Quite annoying for me as I had plenty of people walking in, cash in hand to buy it and I had to send them away.
