Filter effect...

Postby Elephone » Thu Jan 24, 2019 5:10 pm

Hello. Can anyone explain what this effect plugin is doing exactly?

https://youtu.be/8fvioitePRY

Is SQUAWK 1 likely to be out-of-phase with SQUAWK 2? Then levels and filtering can be applied to either?

I'd rather not buy the plugin, because I've probably got VST filters that can approximate the same thing, if combined or set up properly.

Thanks

I've not looked into this plugin in any depth, just viewed your video, but it would seem to me that the Squawk 2 is a band-pass filter set with a narrow bandwidth (and a lot of resonance), while Squawk 1 is a steep (3rd or 4th order) low-pass filter (again with resonance).

You could replicate the effect to an extent using a decent parametric EQ, but it won't be quite as controllable and probably won't sound quite as extreme. If you can find a plugin that emulates synthesiser filtering, that would do much the same job (as long as it had a band-pass mode)

Thanks. Can anyone suggest a free VST that emulates synth filters? In fact, free ones might be better anyway in cases like this. Cheers
