I want to record my computer dying

Postby Reinerterig » Thu Jul 11, 2019 3:21 pm

Hi all, This is my first post here and it's kind of a weird one too.

Recently I've been pretty into using distortion and noises as percussion.

Think 10 d E A T h b R E a s T by Bon Iver.

or Big Red Machine - Hymnostic https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=c784Nv_qzjw

Engineers that use CPU heavy plugins should be familiar with that awful sound of ProTools crashing in the middle of a mix, that's exactly the sound I want. I want to know if anyone has any creative approaches getting that sound without the DAW stopping playback so I can capture it, maybe someone knows of a plugin that can create a similar effect. maybe add to the conversation if you have some weird distorted glitchy tricks up your sleeve.

I want to add that just finding some glitchy sounds is not what I'm looking for, this effect that I want is kind of "program dependent"

Thanks for any input from this community.

The obvious way is to use another computer with mikes to capture the other one as you kill PT to generate that sound.

Hi Reinerterig, and welcome to the SOS Forums! 8-)

You could perhaps make a start by visiting the GlitchMachines website. As their name suggests, they specialise in unusual glitchy sounds, and have a great reputation in the industry.

They also have several freebie plug-ins that might do exactly the job you're after:

Personally, I'd start by taking a look at these two freeware beauties:
