Sending Audio from Laptop through DI

Postby j_brown98 » Sun Aug 04, 2019 4:09 pm

Hey folks,

I’m currently working a venue at the fringe which only has 1 1m aux cord however the act is wanting to play audio from their laptop on stage at the other end of the room and we don’t have any extensions to help with this.

Would it be possible to send the audio through a DI, into a multi core and then into the desk it would this be damaging to the laptop?

Sorry if this is a stupid question

Not a stupid question, and yes, a DI box would be a good solution -- or, more probably, a dual or stereo DI, in fact, because the laptop will provide a stereo or dual-channel output.

And there are DI boxes available specifically for laptop and multimedia applications.

For example, Radial do both active and passive multimedia DI boxes, like the Stagebug5: https://www.radialeng.com/product/stagebug-sb5 which is about £90, or there's the active JPC: https://www.radialeng.com/product/jpc which is twice the price (I have one and it's excellent... But it needs phantom power and is silly money for a little box!)

Other multimedia DI boxes are available...
