Mixing & Mastering Lessons

Postby glottore » Fri Sep 27, 2019 9:24 am

Hello I am a beginner/intermediate singer-songwriter, I have recorded quite a few songs using Logic Pro X but I do not know how to properly mix and master my tracks, which are typically just a vocal track and a guitar track. I am looking for lessons to help learn these skills, either online or 1-to-1 if you are based in Manchester. Much appreciated!

As many others will no doubt also advise, you need to talk to Zukan here (a moderator of these very forums) as he does remote 1:1 over Skype, e-books and video tutorials. It's worth every penny. He's also a good giggle too.

If he's not available, the (so close run that it's nanoseconds difference) second option would be to talk to The Elf here as he's northern based (near Sheffield) and can do 1:1 time.

If you can't get through on Private Messages here, let us know on this thread and we can send you their details. I can't stress how good both are - and they are far too modest to!

Happy to help, mate. Drop me a PM if you like and I'll give you details.

And I would say that Zukan would be an excellent choice too.

The OP'll need 3 posts before he has access to PMs.

That's a very gentlemanly (spell check didn't blink there, so it must be a word) system.

Hi Glottore, welcome to the forum. :)
As another beginner, I'd make two recommendations:
1) pick up a copy of Mike Senior's book 'Mixing Secrets for the Small Studio' and the companion 'Recording Secrets...' as well.
2) once you're up to three posts on here drop a private message to The Elf on here and arrange a private tuition session. I did and it was an excellent, and very reasonably priced, investment.

You'll have seen Zukan's name above as well, and it's worth having a look at his tutorial website samplecraze.com - there's loads of free stuff on there and even more content if you put your hand in your pocket. I'm currently working through his vocal production masterclass. So a  for that as well.

And just for the avoidance of doubt, although I've met both of them, I'm not in any way affiliated to The Elf or Zukan, nor do I receive any financial benefit for recommending them or their products etc etc etc. :)

Just for transparency, I may have accepted a coffee or two from both Zukan and Elf. Biscuits may also have been involved.

But they are both jolly good ... :D

I've taken up the services of both Zukan and The Elf on different occasions and I can vouch for both as being excellent at what they do (and they are extremely nice guys too!)
