Are this headphones good for mixing?

Postby Mimo69 » Wed Oct 02, 2019 11:52 pm

Hi, I was looking for a nice and cheap headphones, and i found two headphones that I can get from aliexpress: samson sr850 and sr950.

I need a headphones that can help me for recording voices also, however, I read that sr950 are good for recording and sr850 for mixing, but for now, I dont have much money so I'll buy the headphones that could be useful for mixing and recording voices, at least for a time.

Which one would you buy, guys? (I'm between sr850 and sr950 'cause both are available on aliexpress and both are really cheap)

The 950s are closed-backed and so leak very little sound, and thus would be the best choice for tracking vocals since the backing track being heard by the vocalist won't leak out and be picked up by the mic.

The 850s are semi-open, so they will leak a lot more sound which won't be great when you're tracking vocals... but open-backed headphones usually have a flatter response and so are more accurate for making mixing decisions.
