Need help. Does this vocal cut through enough?

Postby Kinh » Sun Oct 13, 2019 1:58 pm

When the chorus hits the lead vocal seems to lack punch and blend too much with the BVs. Do you think I should isolate it more in the stereo field and boost the level or does it have enough impact as is?
Thanks

When the chorus hits, the lead vocal is inevitability masked to some degree. If we push the LV up far enough it will mask the BVs. We have to find the best tradeoffs, but that's mixing.

Sounds pretty OK to me. It's a chorus and it sound about right to me. It sounds like you've got the same person doing lead and BV. The lead vocal might stay a bit more prominent with different BV singers, but I don't think it needs to be in this type of track.

Haven't listened but if you need the lead vocal to peak above the mix or to hold its own ground then duck the mix using the lead vocal as a trigger. I often do this with dynamic eqs. Works a treat.
