How to credit Horns played on Mellotron?

Postby ViaLosFeliz » Mon May 18, 2020 8:28 pm

So I was writing up some album credits for an album I'm finishing up and I'm in a conundrum on how to credit a horn (Tenor Sax) line played on a Mellotron. What would you do, give it a Mellotron credit or Tenor Sax credit or something else? To give you context, the horn part isn't a typical Sax sounding part, it's an ascending pad over a section that adds texture and an essential harmonic tension in the tune.

What would you do?

I'd be honest and credit it as Mellotron, or Mellotron Brass if you want a more detailed description.

This made me curious about the musicians that were recorded to make the tapes... doesn't seem to be much info about them.

But in this case you're crediting the performer of the notes in question being played, and not the musicians who originally got paid for helping to create the taped sounds.
