rogue high pitch sound in mastering process

Postby bward1998 » Sat Jun 20, 2020 11:59 pm

I have project with about 9 tracks that is at the later stage . In the Master track, a high pitched sound has appeared out of nowhere which causes a tannitis like experience for anybody who listens. Not piercing but you find your ears ringing as you listen. I have found a large spike in the Master track at about 10kHz and have eq'd it to mute. No individual track has this spike.

I am looking for anybody with experience dealing with finding such a little sob or any idea how the collection of the individual tracks would generate a sound that is not in any of the individual tracks.

In Windows 10 using Reaper 6 DAW.

Thnx

What processing do you have on the master track? What happens if you mute all tracks and then bring them in one at a time. Does it happen as soon as you start adding tracks or is there one track in particular that causes the issue?

Unexpected continuous HF tones like this are generally, in my experience, either the result of a howl-round due to some signal routing error, or faulty code in a dodgy plugin.

So I'd work around whatever routing you have in your final mix configuration, and check out each plugin carefully...
