A unified way to handle software licenses (Avid + Waves + Lexicon)

Postby DC-Choppah » Mon Jul 06, 2020 4:30 am

I get myself into some ridiculous situations because the Waves licenses are done in a different way than the others - and I forget. Ughhh!

For ProTools and Lexicon I use the iLok. Now I wish my Waves would come along for that ride. But they have their own way. You have to run Waves Central and 'move' the license from a machine to the cloud, then you can move it to another PC. No iLok dongle, but you have to have access to the machine to move the license.

That is all well and good until I grab my iLok and forget to move the Waves and then get stuck. Dang. Some of the situations are really stupid. Can't there be one way!?

How are you guys doing this? Is there a way to just 'grab all of your stuff' and go?

Is there a license method that works for everybody in one shot?

Put your Waves licenses on a USB stick and treat yourself to a keyring!! (Although I'd guess that you probably have your iLok attached to one already...)

OK. Thanks for that. That is an improvement. So there is no device that is a USB stick AND an iLok at the same time? You have to use the 2 devices then? They do seem like they are the same thing!?!?

Get a big keyring in case you get some Steinberg software. You'll have to add an eLicenser then.

Yep, they are different things. iLok, eLicenser (Steinberg, VSL etc.), and a USB key.
I count five and a USB hub if I work 'abroad'!

I avoid anything that needs invasive licensing systems.
