I’ve found Mike Senior’s book ‘Mixing Secrets for the Small Studio’ to be a great help. It’s a really clear step by step guide.
If your room really is bad, it will be very hard to get a good mix. Installing some treatment will really help. Can you do the majority of your work on phones and then audition your mixes in a better environment for fine adjustments (this is what I do)?
