Heaphones - again

Postby adrian_k » Tue Oct 06, 2020 11:13 am

Sorry to drag this subject up again, but I'd appreciate some input.

My Sennheiser HD 250 Linear IIs are nearing end of life. I bought them in about 2005. They are closed back, they were as much as I could afford at the time (about £120 I think), and had to cover both tracking and mixing duties, and they have been great. But the earpads have finally disintegrated and Sennheiser no longer sell parts for these. I bought some after market ones that fit but are really not up to the job.

I know the AKG702 gets a lot of love round here, but they are open back so while better for mixing not suitable for tracking. I might have a way round that, but in the meantime does anyone out there use any closed back headphones they are really happy with for tracking and mixing?

thanks
Adrian

The K271 is the equivalent AKG closed-back model.

We did a roundup of closed back phones here:

The K271 is pretty good, and I rate the Beyer DT770 highly too.

Another vote for the DT770 here, really good isolation (on my head at least) and all-day comfortable (also on my head! :) ).

Have both D770 and several AKG M50x - these are the ones that gets used the most for tracking.
