what are your favourite reference songs for mastering?

Postby DonGoliath » Sun Nov 15, 2020 1:15 pm

please post you favourite reference songs for mastering purposes. they should obviously have a great tonal balance and also cover the full frequency spectrum (including sub) so they ll be usebal also for sub/bass heavy genres. acoustic genres are welcome too but should have a sub or very low bass (such as eg. reggae). please always include youtube links to the songs you ll post so readers of this post can directly check your suggested songs in order to evaluate if they might be useful for them.

mine are:

The Weeknd - Blinding Lights https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4NRXx6U8ABQ

Twenty One Pilots - Stressed Out https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pXRviuL6vMY (this one has no sub though so it isnt allowed here lol but i use it for its great top end and then use the previous one for low end referencing)

Hi DonGoliath!

You're retreading old ground here, as we've discussed this very subject quite a few times now ;)

Here's an excellent feature from the SOS Magazine entitled 'Creating Your Own Reference CD':
https://www.soundonsound.com/techniques ... ference-cd

Here's a fairly recent thread from the forum entitled 'Recommendations for Reference Track Lists', with lots of recommendations:

And another even more recent one from the forum:

Hope they help!
