It's been getting less and less use, so it will have to go.

Whilst I am a fan of the plugin (it really is wonderful and I do use it far too much), if I still had my SR and started having thoughts like that, I'd be inconsolable.
Mate, I owe you a thousand favours - if you want it, your name is on it!

Yes, it is quite revealing to do a stock-take.

Bought:

    Alesis Nanoverb (cheap but tasty)
16-in1 RAM cartridge for Ensoniq SQ80
Book: Roland JV/XP: Sounds and Sequencing, Tips and Tricks, Buyer's Guide for Synths
    SubZero 4x4 MIDI Interface - B-Stock
    Ensoniq MR-76 + 3-in1 expansion card
    Novation Peak
    Korg AX3000G
    Boss RV-6 reverb pedal
    Roland A-880 MIDI switcher x 2
MFB 301 Pro drum machine - awaited!
    Piano lessons!

Sold:

Erm, nothing yet - it is so much easier to buy than to sell. However, the 'for sale' list for 2021will include:
    Roland SH-201 VA
    Yamaha V50 FM
    Yamaha MJC8 MIDI switcher
Possibly a Novation KS-Rack, just can't decide, because it is quite a versatile beasty.

Don't really want to sell any of them, but a) they are 'the price' for the Novation Peak and b) I just don't have any room left!

I seriously need to slow down for 2021 and explore the goodies I have.

I might be interested in that.

Good to see you plumped for the Peak! What do you make of it so far? I'm still finding new things in mine, it's an excellent bit of kit.

Can't quite remember what I've bought this year, but some highlights would be the Yamaha E1005 delay and Drawmer 1978 compressor. Both see a lot of use.

Peak - what a wonderful synth. If you can rustle up a poly aftertouch keyboard to use with it you will never look back!

Sorry to hear that. At least you have your GAS under control though.

Talk to me. :D To be honest it is not the easiest MIDI switcher out there - thus the 2 x A-880! However, for the price...

Not explored it anything like well enough yet. My overwhelming reaction is that it is so damn powerful. I am still trying to figure out how you get it off '11'. Just listening through YouTube patch examples to see what it can do in the hands of talented programmers/players - the answer seems to be, just about anything.

As a silly example, I have been looking at my synths with a view to synthesizing analogue handclaps. Started looking into it on the Peak, to find this Envelope repeat function, so I can get 3 sharp bursts (how many would you like, sir?), followed by a tail of white noise. Bit of distortion, a dash of delay and reverb.

Not something many would seek, but the Peak just says 'Yes, I can do that!'

Ensoniq SQ80 :bouncy:

I wrote to Novation and told them that they need Pan as a mod destination, oh, and a phaser option please. They said yes, Bill, we'll get right on it, sorry to keep you waiting. Well, in my dreams, but who knows.

I was watching a nice JP8 video on Youtube yesterday and thinking 'wow'. Then it occurred to me that the Peak could almost certainly cover the same sonic territory, and more.

So that's good, no need to find £12k down the back of the sofa

Ooh! Didn't know it could do this! Excellent! It's just a madly good synth. Even the 3-op FM is good for those basic DX/TX bell/bass patches. And although it's only monotimbral, you can fake layers by using the 3rd envelope as a VCA for one of the oscs, while using the other 2 oscs/envs as a more traditional voice. I've got a half-decent Lambda-style patch that way.

I've been eyeing up the new P5, but... for 3 grand, I might be able to live with the Peak. Not decided yet. I'm slowly refining my 'Init Wonky' patch on it, but am up to 10 mod slots now for things like frequency, envelope times, scaling etc. I don't bother with Drift, but find Diverge very good at thickening things up.

Roland's System-8 cooled my ardour for the JP-8. I spent more time tuning my old JP-8 than playing it. Finally my patience broke and I replaced it with a JP-80 - ugh! Then I replaced it with the System-8 - bingo. All the good bits of a JP-8 without the pain.

I really fancy something very Rolandy. I am persuaded of the merits of the System-8 - you have been telling us for a while and I trust your judgement. I have seen them as cheap as £800, which must be a bargain. But something else would have to go, probably the KingKorg, which would feel like a betrayal, as it is a great VA that I have barely delved into - a contemporary DW8000, Prophet, Moog...

So, a bit less wanton lusting and a bit more actual sex in 2021?  :D

Thanks, chaps.
All rather frustrating and even without the purchase going ahead it's wasted enough money for a shiny synth or two :(
I've cleared out a lot of other junk in anticipation of the move though, and am actually enjoying the uncluttered state of things. I think a cheap 61/88 key controller is on the cards soon as I'm down to just a 25 key controller and it's not sufficient, but I'll try to continue to keep the more general GAS in check until things have settled down. My eBay watch list isn't publicly visible, right?
