Hey all
I am looking for a new tape plugin. 2 options
1 Softube Tape
2 Phoenix II
Any advice would be much welcomed.

Softube Tape is my preferred tape colouration plugin, but partly why I like it is because it is fairly gentle in general than other plugins which attempt all too much to grunge up the audio with excessive colouration and transient squashing - although it can be pushed if you want to do that.
As you're interested in these, presumably you're demo-ing them? Everyone has their own idea as to the sound character they like, and what works best for their music, so it's really down to your tastes, not anyone else's - after all, there are plenty of "tape" emulation plugins on the market.
I haven't tried the other one, but it's quite old now, if that matters. Presumably you're on Protools, as the Cranesong plugin is AAX only. Lastly, Softube Tape is on sale at the moment and is fairly inexpensive - probably much cheaper than the Cranesong one - the upgrade from old versions of that to the current version alone is more than the cost of the Softube plugin.
Edit:
Softube Tape - £50
Phoenix II - £430 inc VAT

Hi
Thanks so much for the advice. 50 sounds like it's worth a punt.

They're both good, but make sure you demo Acustica Audio's Taupe too.
