Sorry forum members, 15 minutes are going to become 20....I argue the owners of the forum want understandably defend themselves from possible legal claims, underlining rightly the forum rules and any breach of them....this gives me the occasion to add something:
I have clearly admitted my mistake to break unwillingly the forum rules and sincerely apologized
and firstly and foremost I renew my apology.
I am grateful that you considered the problem solved. I do not want that this is sounding like I am retreating my apologies which are sincere. I wanted only to state clearly that I didn't commit any theft,

Accessing material through many links on the site you posted consitutes theft, which is a moral question you may want to ponder, especially as you say you've already downloaded a range of materials from it

similar statements addressed to a specific person in a forum that everyone can read are at least inappropriate. I think that removing the links and sending me a strong message with the menace to be banned is correct, but arriving to the point of accusing me to have committed a theft (of materials that are even not yours) is not and exceeds your knowledge of the facts.
I will learn from this story to think more about what I post, and I wonder if you may consider to address incorrect posts that break forum rules in a less aggressive manner, at least at the first attempt.
Does anyone that access one of the well known search engines or social media giants, or online aggregators of documents, news... commit theft? because all these platforms have quite a lot of copyrighted material leaked and abundantly circulating in various manners and search results of "respectable legal web giants" unfortunately include also potential illegal sites....
I understand that copyright infringement has become a serious threat for the survival of many businesses and that you are understandably particularly sensitive on the matter.
Many of the new legal challenges of the worldwideweb have still to be resolved, as the recent Australian dispute on one of the web giant shows. Why countries let websites be online and taking advantage of creators and publishers for years, if this is illegal??? It's a complex matter, a delicate balance of different rights: the rights of the legitimate owners, creators and publishers to defend their property and be paid for the fruit of their hard work, the right of free circulations of ideas and resources, the rights of the poor people that cannot economically afford the resources that rich countries and people have..…
There is something worthy to be called theft, and there is picking an overripe strawberry into an exterminate field, which is not.

Looks like you're getting a little confused? The statement you quote says:

to which you reply:

The statement is about accessing (aka downloading) material thru links in pirate website.
It was very much in a impersonal form. Publishing said links it's just against the forum rule.

So unless you have downloaded material, you haven't stolen anything. If you did download something, that something is stolen, both according to copyright law and ethically. In which case, you can delete it and hope nobody presses charges.

The same reason summarily hanging the occasional person in far west times happened.
It's been a frontier, and frontiers last a few decades. We're getting out of it, in a decade or two it'll be over and regulated. As Mark Knopfler used to sing, then came the laywers, then came the rules...

Sure sure, but let's cut the crap: if someone knows something should be paid for (such as a book), and he/she lifts it from a pirate website, it's theft. It's not that hard, and you know it and I know it and more importantly the authors may know it.

Eddy's statement was clear, and was responding directly to your earlier comments regarding your previous accessing of books from that site.

If you are confident that you have not downloaded illegal copyrighted material thats fine. But from where Im standing it looks like you're on rather thin ice and stressing the goodwill that has been generously extended to you thus far... If I were you I'd stop squirming and move on...

I think it was fairly obvious that the site you linked to was offering stolen goods.

If Hugh hadn't already replied I don't think I would have been so generous. Many of us here earn a living out of music and publishing so any attempts to excuse theft won't be taken kindly. It is up to you to check out the legitimacy of any links you post.
