Thomann drop Behringer UMC range.

Postby ef37a » Sat Jan 13, 2018 5:50 pm

Went to their site today to check their price for the UMC-404 and found the page empty but for a notice telling me they no longer stock this range of interfaces.

The Berry interfaces have generated a lot of comment and interest and I am yet to read anything bad about them. Love to know why Thomann have dropped them?

Looks like Thomann are no longer listed as a Behringer music store on the Behringer site. So what Behringer stuff they've got is run-out stock. Music Store are Behringer stockists - which means that DV247 will have them.

Thanks Wonks. Wonder why they have parted company though?

I've seen a mention about some sort of separation between Thomann and Behringer too. Don't know any details, or the extent of it.

Yup! As The Elf says there are confirmatory stories elsewhere on the Internet as well as a statement from Behringer:

That is correct Thomann still has stock available in their inventory and is selling it, but once it's gone then it will no longer be available. I wouldn't expect them to just leave it sitting in their inventory shelves untouched. Lots of other retailers in the Europe market carry our gear (with more joining all the time) and are happily picking up the slack now that our products will no longer be available through Thomann.

Some will be able to appreciate this change while others might not, but ultimately our gear can still be found at many shops/stores in Europe. Our friends can contact any of our authorized retailers for pricing and availability of products in their area.

I'll do my best to provide any additional information that may arise regarding the situation. Please feel free to contact myself or our CARE teams directly if there's anything else we can do to assist you.

Thanks!

I treat with scepticism anything I read on the Internet from unknown sources, but FWIW there are stories that Behringer and Thomann have had a spat and also that Behringer are pulling away from other European suppliers.

It's definitely true that Thomann's range of Behringer gear is now patchy and much reduced.

We'll have to see what happens; at present Studiospares are often THE cheapest for at least some Behringer gear.

Gear4music still seem to be stocking a pretty full range (including everyone's favourite DI20's ;) ) in the UK.

Behringer stores listed here. A lot more in the UK than in Germany.

I think that this is a specific problem between Behringer and Thomann. No doubt we will hear more...

Supposedly a Behringer employee said on Sequencer.de that Behringer wanted Thomann to sell at higher prices so that the smaller stores could compete with them, and Thomann said no. Probably not Music Group's official line, but it makes sense.

It does make sense, and I've heard something very similar.

There are two sides to every story. Let's hope they make it up at some point in the future.

They'd probably get into trouble with the EU competition regulations if this was said officially.

I bought my UMC204HD from Amazon and there was still stock left.

The UMC202HD that I had originally ordered was "temporarily out of stock" and then the "sold by Amazon" listing for it was taken down, leaving only Marketplace sellers.

I thought it was that the 202HD is being discontinued but is it possible instead that Amazon are also dropping Behringer?

EDIT: By the way, the UMC204HD sounds great. I'm considering doing a review in the User Reviews section of this forum

Does this affect more than just the Behringer brand? Other Music Tribe brand products seem to have disappeared from Thomann or are 'out of stock, e.g. TC Electronic/Helicon.

It's not just T. Many German dealerships have dropped or are dropping B and the rumour mill is working overtime!

P.S. Have a look at B's Glassdoor entries. They make for amusing reading!
