Audiovisual Electronics Engineer

Salary £26,000 per annum pro rata
0.8 FTE (28 hours 48 minutes per week over 4 days) – flexible working hours
Fixed Term Contract to end of June 2022

The successful applicant must have a thorough knowledge and understanding of electronic engineering to equivalent HND level or higher. They must be able to understand complex circuit design and operation, in order to troubleshoot and repair PCBs to component level. They must also have good mechanical skills and strong computer literacy. Experience of a wide range of audiovisual technologies would be an advantage.

You will be joining an exciting project to save and share audio archives. Unlocking our Sound Heritage is part of the British Library’s Save our Sounds programme, and will digitally preserve almost half a million rare and unique recordings, establish a network of audio preservation centres across the UK and encourage more people to enjoy and learn from audio archives.

As the Audiovisual Electronics Engineer, you will help ensure that the audiovisual equipment vital to the preservation of endangered media selected for the project is maintained, operating at the highest standards and available when needed.

In addition, you will support the business as usual activities of the Sound & Vision Technical Services and curatorial teams. This will include analogue and digital audio and video repair and maintenance to component level, equipping sound studios at the British Library’s Centre for Conservation according to the demands of the project, and supporting the audiovisual workstations used by specialist transfer engineers.


This post is part-funded by the National Lottery Heritage Fund and is fixed term to end of June 2022, with the possibility of extension upon the completion of the project.
