25 note Moog?

Postby IAA » Sat Jan 18, 2020 11:54 am

The Subsequent is a lovely sound engine, but why 25 notes -- who is this for?? If you’re a serious player you’d need to hook up a midi keyboard to play it, if you’re not then why not a module?

Just a wonderin.....

Who knows - perhaps it was designed by committee? ;)

Or perhaps the front panel controls ended up a suitable length for a 2 octave keyboard, and the committee (not being keyboard players) thought that would be the best match? :smirk:

Perhaps it’s for EDM styles, in which case you just need the range of a fifth . . . . . 8-)

So if it's only got 25 keys, they should change the name to:

25 notes?

In all the years that I have been in this business and the thousands of recordings I have made over those years, I have never come across a song that is only 25 notes long.

I suppose it’s horses for courses, but I personally think they’re a bit wide of the mark on this. The slim phatty module was not bad, great sound in easy module. I’m sure the sub 37 module would work even more. I would have liked a subsequent 44, but that’s why I’m not a Synth designer!

To get back on-topic :) there's a nice demo video here from Lisa Bela Donna at NAMM 2020 (after the interview spiel):

Ouch!

For that price you can buy 3 Yoshimi Pi and still have enough for a 49 note keyboard {shameless plug}

£859 at Andertons. They have 10 in stock (and have done for a few days so I presume they aren't flying out the door). That's £34.36 a key.

I have to say I was expecting a sub-600 quid price tag, and hoping maybe they'd pleasantly surprise me with something even lower.

I can't see many people beating down doors for this one.

Brilliant.
But mod wheel and pitch bend must be a bonus extra and free!
Why the hesitation. . . . . .

Well, it's a replacement for the Sub Phatty, which is in the £600+ range, so £800+ is quite a step up. Not sure what more it brings to the table tbh, the Subseqeuent 37 is visibly quite a lot more synth than the Little Phatty was, but the S25 just looks like a refreshed Sub P.
