Today we announce a major update to our Apple and Android Tablet Apps which launch on Thursday 21st January 2021. Now Smartphone compatible! :thumbup:

This totally redesigned app is based on HTML5 to provide maximum compatibility across tablet and smartphone device,s and it introduces many requested new features.

New Look
We’ve redesigned the app to have a clean look with fast loading, highly responsive pages that adapt to different size devices and orientations.

Portrait View
Tap the hamburger menu, top right, when in an issue to see a full list of contents in the issue.

Landscape View
This also uses the hamburger menu to select different articles. And, when reading an article, you’ll see a red sidebar listing the different sections for in-article navigation.

Tablet and Smartphone compatible
Get the best from your devices whether at home, in the studio or on the move.



Tablet users can access both the new design, plus legacy issues back to January 2012.
On Smartphone, you can view our new design from the November 2020 issue and all future issues.



Pinch-Zoom on Images & Adverts
Back by popular demand! All images and adverts can be zoomed on any device for enhanced detail (November 2020 issue onwards).

Improved Audio Players
A full-function audio player with volume control and a jump 15-seconds forward/backward feature. Playlist mode enables the player to automatically cycle through multiple tracks.

Download individual articles or full issues
The new app enables you to download articles on-demand as you browse an issue or, for offline reading, you can download the full issue.

Use on 5 devices
All direct SOS Digital Subscribers can use the app on any combination of iPad, iPhone, Android Tablet and Smartphones. (Not available on App Store purchased subscriptions.)



SOS Digital Subscriber benefits
* If you are an iPad/iPhone user and subscribe via Apple’s App Store, you only have access to the app. (You can cancel and move to SOS Digital subscription.)
* If you subscribe via the SOS website, for the same cost we give you access to all our locked web articles, plus you can download a Full Issue PDF of each monthly issue too, plus access the Replica Magazine. So, multiple ways to read the magazine each month... Any place, Any device - Any time!

From 21st January you can download and install the new v13.1 app.
* Apple devices require iOS 12 or newer.
* Android devices require v7 or newer.

FAQs
What happens if I don’t update?
You can continue to use the current v12.0.2 app but you won’t be able to view any new issues.

Legacy Issues?
Any single issue or issues that are part of your subscription will remain accessible but you may need to restore your purchases after updating the app. See the FAQs in the new app for further help.

I am a digital subscriber, and use an android phone, but can't find the app on Google play (Though I can find lots of emergency morse signal apps, and while not being able to read my SOS could be considered an emergency, it isn't the same thing!). I currently just use the web browser to read articles, but would like to check out the all new app. Can you post a link to it?

It's go-live Thursday today and we are in the process of changing over all the apps and updating those back issues that will now work on smartphone (Nov2020 to Feb2021) -- hence the disappearance of the old app.

Give it until 11am or so UK time and all should be visible - look for v13.1 app. Though Apple server caches do take a while to ripple across to every country store.

That's because prior to this brand new v13.1 release the SOS App did not function on ANY smartphone and thus Google did not show it if you were looking while using your phone.

Here's the link to the Google Play Store SOS app but it is reliant on G's servers rippling across the globe before the new 13.1 app shows here (on both tablet and smartphone). But it DOES WORK on both devices now, and in landscape and portrait mode (see info at top of this topic):

If you search for Sound On Sound on either Apple App Store or Google Play you won't (yet) find our v13.1 new app. We've asked both platforms why, but until this is resolved please use the direct links below and install the smartphone app or tablet app that way. Thanks.

I went to the Apple App Store, searched for sound on sound, and it immediately showed an update was available. Downloaded the update and checked with the latest issue.

It's definitely the latest version because pinch zoom worked.
