Re: Announcing The New SOS App! Smartphone & Tablet
Just to clarify - the smartphone app only starts with November 2020 (Vol 36 Issue 1) edition [we made it FREE to all] as it is simply impossible for us to go back further to re-make every back issue.
On tablets, if using the 13.1 app, it will provide access to January 2012 to February 2021 (and future issues) and November 2020 through to February 2021 are in the new HTML5 format. January-April 2012 are also now Free to view.
Recommendation: if you buy your SOS subscription via iTunes App Store, you do not receive all the extra benefits of being an SOS direct Digital subscriber, namely:
* Web article access on soundonsound.com to locked issues
* Full Issue PDF monthly download
* Installation on up to 5 devices (iOS/Android combinations)
* Access to Replica Digital Magazine (browsers only)
Subscribing directly with SOS means you are supporting your favourite recording technology magazine/website, because this way we receive full payment and do not have to split commission with app store platforms. We also know you, our valued subscriber, since we have your customer data (and respect it) -- Apple do not share this with us hence we cannot provide the bonus Digital services.

Re: Announcing The New SOS App! Smartphone & Tablet
FURTHER INFORMATION FOR iPAD USERS
From time to time Apple force all app developers to update their apps to match the latest iOS and newly released iPad models.
Unfortunately we don’t have any choice but to follow Apple otherwise new devices would not support the app. This is also a way for Apple to encourage people to buy new products on a regular basis. None of us like being pushed to spend money this way but that seems to be the way of the consumer world we live in today.
The downside of this is that when we update the app for new iOS users it can cut off older devices which Apple don’t want to support any longer.
SOS app information
The minimum iOS required is now v12 or more recent.
All iPads, iPad Mini and iPad Pros released from October 2014 onwards can be updated to the latest Apple iOS.
These devices will run the SOS app v11.4.1 and SOS app v12.0.2, and will run the new app v13.1 (released 21st Jan 2021)
Older Devices.
Two older devices still work.
The iPad Air and iPad Mini 2 introduced in Nov 2013 can also run iOS v12 but have reached their end of life and may not be updated to a more recent iOS. This supports SOS app v11.4.1, and v12.0.2 which will enable you to download and read all of our issues.
If you have an older device with an old iOS, sadly you won’t be able to update it from the App Store as Apple only provide the latest version. To update, try searching ‘How to install older version of iOS’ to discover how to install a v12.
Information correct at time of this post.

I'm getting an error that the app is not available in my region (US. iOS). Will the app be available to us folk across the pond?

We've literally swapped it to v13.1.1 (quick update) so waiting for Apple to approve and release it. Give it a few hours to show up. (They remove the previous 13.1 version, hence why it looks like nothing is available.)
Their App Store has been acting up and not showing our app in its searches, but if you Google sound on sound US app App Store it will give you a direct link to it.

v13.1.1 "US" app was submitted for approval to the App Store yesterday and we got notification of approval and release this morning, so it should now be available for iPhone and iPad in the USA/Canada/Americas.
The "UK" app has been been available on iOS in other countries since Thursday 21st January.

Re: Announcing The New SOS App! Smartphone & Tablet
I can confirm it was available this morning, the 23rd, in Canada for my iPhone.
Thanks for the update. Count me as one who likes the new format.

The thing that I find odd is that I can zoom pictures, which I don't need to, yet I can't zoom text, which I do! :headbang: :?
If could feed this back to your software providers I'd appreciate it!

Will do. Yes, full accessibility has been requested of the app developer but not feasible at present. Being HTML5 rather than fixed PDF (like pre-Nov 2020 issues) should make this possible at some point.
But the default font size was set pretty large, TBH, so what resolution device screen are you using?

This is on my iPhone - I can't even read the article headings on the content page, never mind the body text! It's considerably easier on the iPad, but I still need to use the stronger of my reading glasses!Forum Admin wrote:But the default font size was set pretty large, TBH, so what resolution device screen are you using?

Wow! OK... it's pretty large on iPhone, but we'll prioritise putting pressure on the developers to allow text-size increases.
What model iPhone are you using please?

Presumably your comment is based on Portrait View? Landscape may be a bit easier.

When I turn it to landscape the text size doesn't change.
This is on an iPhone X.
I hate getting old!
