New album for 2017

Postby Stickman0_3 » Mon Jan 30, 2017 6:33 pm

OK, I want to release my new album - "Flavours" for this year - 2017.

It has a previously unreleased track on it called "Balearic Sunset" that was recorded in 2006. The track has a sample on it that was taken from a Future Music CD. Question is - can I use the sample? It was a ghost train sample. Can anyone shed any light?

Logically, I would have thought any samples on a Future Music magazine CD would be copyright free...

I would've thought the same.

...yeah, if you visit their website and click on Free samples, they explain that:

Because they're royalty-free, you're welcome to use them in your music in any way you like - all we ask is that you don't re-distribute them.

So no problem.

Forgive me for changing the topic, bit I'm assuming that the samples in my Korg Volca beatboxes are similarly copyright-free, is that right? I've done a search, but trawled nothing so far.

I'd be flabbergasted if they weren't - Korg, Roland, and all the other musical instrument makers are in the business of selling instruments to make music, so of course you can use all their internal samples in your own music compositions without any copyright restrictions :headbang:

Where things get tricky are if you take their samples and attempt to sell them as a sample library - now THAT's not on

Basically, if you use them as intended (as samples in music you've made, commercial or free) you can do what you like, the music you make when them is your property and the samples you used were given to you for free and with copyright permission.

You're only NOT allowed to redistribute them as a sample library.

OK, this album is going ahead. Just a couple more things to do, we're looking for a May / June release.

Indeed - good luck Stickman0_3!

Selling albums is getting more and more difficult now in these days of instant streaming - I still buy plenty of them (both CDs and digital downloads), but so many people seem to want pick 'n mix tracks or freebie everything

OK, so as I had nothing to do today, I thought I'd upload my album - "Flavours". It has a release date of 22nd May.

Is there any chance to hear a song from the album before it will be released?

Nice work Stickman0_3! 8-)

It reminds me of Groovejet (If This Ain't Love), which I intend as a compliment, as that was a classic ;)

Thank you Martin :D I can't wait for the album to be released, it's gonna be good, especially the last track on the album - "Balearic Sunset", a real belter of a tune if I may say so.
