What should I do with my world cup England Song?

Postby Guest » Thu Mar 01, 2018 7:09 pm

Hello all!

I've recorded an England song for the World Cup, however I am wondering what to do with it. The original plan was to get a band to front it however, sadly, the band I wanted couldn't commit but their singer kindly provided vocals. I've recorded a demo which I will shoot off to labels, however should I just get it out there anyway to potentially drum up interest / find a suitable band considering the World Cup is only a few months away?

Many thanks

Given England's general performance I wouldn't be banking on a long tail...

In reality, you're in the same boat as anyone else trying to get exposure so the usual advice applies.

Do you need a physical band to front it? If it's a case of finding good musicians for the recording then have you considered remote recording/online collaboration?

Couldn't you get some ex-England players (like Gazza and Beardsley) to sing on it?

Yep, you beat me to it, I'll pass 'em and you knock 'em in!

But, to the OP, might better writing a song for the German team, we're usually back on the bus before the engine has gone cold.

You're lucky, our family supports Scotland which means we stand no chance.

I'd suggest you make a YouTube video to go with your song/demo - just stills of England players in action, the manager Gareth Southgate, and logos, etc. Then post it with an obvious title and good tags - say, England World Cup 2018 Song? (You're not saying it's the official one.)

This will undoubtedly get you some views and social media pass-ons, and might just bring you to the attentions of labels/publishers who could stump up the cash to re-record it, if they wish to.

Fact: more people in the music industry view YouTube than read a prospective email you send to a list of corporates.

It shows you believe in the song, and it'll get more serious consideration than any email/letter sent to numerous label A&Rs will.

Go for it!

...or maybe do a take on the actually pretty decent 1970 one called "Back Home". Open brackets; Within a Week; Close brackets.
