Best way to get permission to use music for guided meditations

Postby Baldo » Thu Mar 07, 2019 7:27 pm

Hi,

Can someone advise m on the best way to get clearance to use certain music tracks for guided meditations please?

Do I go down the same route as getting sample clearance?

Or should I just approach the artist in question and offer them a cut of any sales of the meditations.

Many thanks

You could start by approaching the artist and seeing if they still own the rights to the music. And if not, who does.

Have you looked at using library music tracks? At least the licensing and payments are very clear and they generally don't cost a huge amount to use.

As you're in Germany this: https://www.gema.de/en/nc/ would be a good place to start.

Hopefully you won't have to go through the tedium of contacting artists, producers, writers etc etc etc, but can get a licence that covers your needs.

You simply need to obtain a mechanical license, easy song licensing does for example , or the Harry fox agency. It’s around 15$ apiece I think.

Note that if the musician has a publisher, he may or may not be entitled to make side deals. In any case if you track him/her down get a written and signed note.
