Fascinating. First of many big bands or just a statement from a band that can afford not to tour?

"Coldplay not touring to save music", would be a better headline.

I thought some of the journalists at the press conference were quite harsh on them.

I’ve seen audiences like that when I last toured!

Presumably we’re standing down the SOS forum Album tour?? :bouncy:

Great idea!
Since most people see bands on a huge screen and through a monster PA what does it matter if it originates 3,000 miles away, or indeed is live? Yes, I know! 'buzz'..'vibe' but we will all have to give up a LOT of things to save the polar bears. Many their livelyhoods, some their lives. We can surely live without tons of gear, bands and hangers on jet-setting around the planet?

Afford not to tour? Well the Stones easily could but there are so many other snouts in their trough I bet they would get their little bums sued off!

After seeing OMD in Bournemouth on Tuesday I can see why people want to go to live gigs as they were F'in amazing live, although I can't see why anyone would want to see Coldplay live let alone via recorded media :D
But then again if it is for pollution reasons then noise pollution exists, and well coldplay is just that.

I love Cold Play, sometimes you might not start out consciously to like a band, but their music just happened to have been playing around you when certain very significant events in our lives were taking place, they've sneaked in the back door.
When I split up with my wife she asked for the car, I remember driving through Maide Vale, the time, the weather, every detail to this day, when I took the car back to her, when I hear Viva La Vida now I have to turn it off, it's just way to emotional.
The lyrics in that song fitted perfectly in my mind about what was going on at the time, it's a great song.
The sign of a good song can be how we can somehow make it adapt to our own circumstances, even though it may have nothing to do with them, if you're a song writer and you have that notion in your mind it's a good starting point.

I loved Parachutes, generally liked a Rush of Blood to the Head and then liked nothing of theirs from then on.

Rush of Blood to the Head

Yes I liked that too, an “on the cusp album”, Coldplay remind me so much of how I saw U2. Great early albums, inventive sound a move to stadium sounding anthems and then......?

Guess it's a bit like vinyl. It's not really the musical content, but the whole experience. That's what people pay for, these days - the feel of being able to say and remember "I've been there" (ok, with other 10000 ones but... :) )
