Music Distribution Sites ???

Postby pianoworldstage » Thu Oct 08, 2020 5:06 pm

Hi

I've recently done some research regarding digital Music Distribution and the concept of what is does, however I'm still slightly puzzled between online (Music Stores) and online (Music Streaming Services.)

Are Streaming Services only for listening? And Music Stores only for downloading? Or are both intertwined?

Yes, they are two separate concepts, but nothing prevents the same company to offer both.
There's shoe stores and clothes stores and stores that sell both shoes and clothes.

For example, Spotify is only streaming but Apple has still the store - where you can buy tracks and download them - and Apple Music which is a streaming service.

Note that "distribution" normally is used to describe the people the get the shoes in the shop, not the shoe shop.

So when browsing through the Apple store and listening to a audio clip of a track before purchase, thats not the same as streaming?

No man it's not the same as streaming. When you're on a site where you can purchase, they offer a small bit of audio for you to preview, but it wouldn't count to streams on a streaming service
