Calling all UK music producers!

I run a mobile noodle bar called Ninjō based in Wiltshire.

I've fitted little speaker setup to our food van for some chill tunes while customers are purchasing their lunch.

Have you produced some nice chillhop, breakbeat, smooth acoustic, liquid dnb or ambient house that you're proud of? I'd love to hear what you've got with the aim of putting together a playlist each month with some hot fresh locally sourced tunes to compliment our wok fresh locally produced food!

Do you not need a license to play music?

Unless all the music is copyright free, or you have explicit permission from the individual copyright holders then, to play recorded music in a public place, you need a MCPS/PRS licence, this applies to any source including radio or streaming.

I don't know if the OP is planning to pay any contributors, or whether he has the relevant MCPS/PRS licence in place.

It sort of occurs to me that the OP is seeking to avoid paying royalties by using music written by composers who are happy to serve up their music for free or in exchange for some free scran.

So I guess he wants some music by a band called The Butty Beats with tunes such as 'When the Chips are Down' 'Don't Fry for Me Argentina' or seeing as he/she is doing noodles 'Woks it All About, Alfie' etc

No, my bad, sloppy typing/remembering (my wife has "The Music Licence" to allow her to legally play recorded music for dance classes so I should have got it right)

Anyway, FWIW MCPS is Mechanical Copyright Protection Society and PRS is performing Rights Society (so relates to live performance), they formed an alliance in 2009 and rebranded themselves PRS for Music.

The relevant licence is a dual PRS/PPL for premises and the combined licence covers all the bases (and the guitars, keys, drums....... where's my coat?)...

Serious thought for a sec -
If this is a genuine situation to help unheard music voices get heard it might be useful for customers to see the playlists so they can reach out to the performers for more.
