I recall a horrible command line thingy, but I don't believe I ever got it working. AFAIK HOFA and Sonoris pretty much own the game.

I use Reaper to create DDP masters. Andreas Ruge has also created the free DDP Tools command line software which may be the one you are thinking of. Hofa and Sonoris have already been mentioned but I understand that Triumph will also create DDP files on a Mac.

Most serious audio editing software (Sadie, Pyramix, Sequioia, etc) will now create DDP images too so there is plenty of choice.

Fair enough. Other DDP authors are available!

I recall trying to use Reaper's DDP capabilities and gave up on that too. I don't recall why I found it so cumbersome. Things may have changed since then...

ok..waveburner does it..but ive read lots of negitive stuff about the ddp side of it,saying that the tracks were all messed up once they got the cd's back..is there anyway i can check it???..

are there free ddp players..the reason i ask is i did a google search and got lots of programs saying they were a free player but once you installed it, it was part of a ddp package and it required a password.

Wyatt Rice's DDP to Cue Writer program is very handy for converting DDP's into Cue/Wav files or creating a CD from a DDP although I have had issues with the CD writing side of things so I just use it to create .cue file or print out a PQ sheet now.

For the record, Studio One Professional from PreSonus can generate a DDP image (and associated metadata files) from within its Project (mastering) page. The latest 3.5.2 update also allows DDP import for those who prefer or need to export to a different format.

It is, however, not a free program and its Studio One Prime free edition does not include the Project functions.

I switched over to DSP Quattro http://www.dsp-quattro.com/dspquattro/Site/DSP-Quattro.html when Waveburner became unsupported by Apple. Its workflow is the closest to Waveburner that I’ve found, it’s been stable and produces DDP files.

Highly recommended and won’t break the bank.

I’d forgotten how useful Quattro is. 89 euros / 99 dollars is a bargain.

Wikipedia lists the PC and Mac software that supports DDP (including the discontinued programs):

Plus if you've got Logic they'll knock another 15 euros off that (you have to show proof of purchase, but that turns out to be quite easy). It's finally time for me to move on from faithful old Waveburner, I guess.

Just thought I'd add that during the process of buying and installing DSP-Quattro I ended up in a very friendly exchange of emails with the developer. You've no idea how positive that leaves me about the product even before I've started using it :)

Nice! Let us know how you get on. It's very Waveburnerish with just a few slightly different aspects (from memory the zoom to view is slightly different, click and drag on the orange line, and I think the default start play point can vary depending on mode) but otherwise you'll feel at home.

You've probably figured this out already, but to start a CD project create a new 'Audio CD Layout' file, then drag audio files into the 'Regions' pane.

What sold me on it was looking at a picture of the audio CD screen and thinking, yeah, I've been here before. I've got real work for it this weekend, my group has just completed a demo CD's worth of sea shanties and it's time to burn it. I'll let you know how it goes.
