Program to record BBC iPlayer Radio to MP3?

Postby Agharta » Tue Aug 21, 2018 7:03 pm

I use Total Recorder with Windows to record historical BBC radio shows from their website.
My sister wants to do something similar on her MacBook.
It requires these features:

1) Record the stream as is and have a timer so it will stop recording after a fixed period.
2) Auto save to MP3 or AAC format and allow you to choose the sample rate.
3) Ideally it will have an option to put the computer to sleep or shutdown after the recording is completed.

So pretty basic really.
Any ideas?

Audio Hijack will do that (except shutdown the computer).

However there's a smaller, less capable version of this which will likely be a better fit - but I haven't used it and I don't know whether it has a timer option... Edit: It doesn't...

Thanks Desmond.
The Total Recorder people recommended that but as I'm not sure how often my sister will use the program I thought I'd look for something cheaper also.

The features required are fairly basic so hopefully there are some cheaper out there.

Audio Hijack isn't cheap but it's very good and makes its versatility unusually easy to understand. I used to use Total Recorder in my Windows days and it was very good but Audio Hijack is better. She may find she finds new uses for it once she has it.

Thanks CC.
Knowing my sister I highly doubt she will use anything but the basics.
As long as she thinks she will use it regularly I am sure she won't mind paying for a more premium product.

A lot of the BBC output can be downloaded from the programme website and for anything currently or recently on air check out if there is a podcast feed.
Not to take anything away from the suggestions above, but worth checking each programme just in case.
